
A 35-year-old Newton woman is in jail for allegedly stealing a rural Newton man’s car in Colfax, and driving it to Newton. Newton Police say officers arrested Tessa Kathryn Smith on May 20th, after responding to a complaint about a woman entering a North 15th Avenue East home without permission. Both Smith and a stolen 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix were found at that address. The criminal complaint also states 2.4 grams of marijuana was found in Smith’s purse, which was recovered from the stolen car. Smith is charged with 2nd degree theft, a class D felony, and 1st offense possession of marijuana, a serious misdemeanor.
