The doubleheader of the Tulip City Softball Showdown resulted in a split, with an opening 6-5 victory for the Dutch, followed by a total Eagles 14-0 domination in four innings, both heard live on 92.1 KRLS Friday.

The first game was the ultimate back-and-forth tilt between the in-city rivals, with Pella Christian striking first in the top of the first with the use of their speed, aided by two Dutch errors. Pella would find single runs in the 1st, 3rd, and 4th innings, before the Eagles would tie the game in the 5th. Madi Keske gave the Dutch the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning on an RBI double. P.C. would again use their top of the order and speed to force a few more Dutch errors in the top of the 7th, highlighted by an RBI from Chloe Snyder. The final frame would end in a bit of controversy, as the home plate umpire reversed his own out call at home of Haylie DeVries on a sacrifice fly to safe, which tied the contest in the bottom of the 7th. Lucy Carlson followed that up with the game winning sacrifice fly to end game one.

Hungry for their first conference win in two years, the Pella Christian girls did not let the end of game one define the nightcap, which belonged to the softball team from Eagle Lane. Pella Christian scored 11 runs in the top of the 2nd inning to take total control. Brynn Roozeboom ended up with three hits, two doubles, two runs, and two RBI in the contest to lead a team effort.

Pella’s record moved to 4-5 overall and 4-4 in the conference; P.C. won their first conference game since June of 2023 and now has a 2-7 overall win-loss record. The Dutch play in the Oskaloosa tournament today; the Eagles head to Oskaloosa for conference action on Monday.
