Several Pella Dutch state track and field qualifying athletes kept their seasons going on Saturday in unattached races around the Midwest.

State champions Marissa Ferebee and Canaan Dunham competed in the Kronos Distance Madness event in Wichita, Kansas. The two-time defending Iowa Cross Country and 3000 Meters Champion raced in the 5000 meter event, placing 2nd on the track edition with a time of 17:07.43 to earn 2nd place, just ahead of conference rival Jordyn Brown of Indianola, who placed 3rd. Dunham, who was a key in the Dutch placing 2nd as a team and the anchor leg of the 4×800 meter state champion relay, placed 4th out of 31 athletes competing in a mile rile (1609 meters) with a time of 4:17.17. He was three spots ahead of former Drake Relays champion Tony Anania of Norwalk, who ran 4:21.58 to place 7th.

Mason Gaulke was also a part of the 4×800 champions for the Dutch, and he continued running this summer, competing at the Belmont Mile at Pleasant Valley High School in Bettendorf. Gaulke was 7th in the mile race there with a time of 4:37.85. Teammate and multiple-time state qualifying cross country runner Noah Schuknecht placed 12th in the race at 4:43.16 out of 30 entries from around the state.

Logan VanDenBroek, a state qualifier in the 100 Meter Hurdles, High Jump, and Shuttle Hurdle Relay this past spring, placed 10th in the “Track Guy” 110 Hurdles race Saturday at the Iowa Track and Field Coaches Association postseason meet at Iowa City West High School. The Track Guy race is named for legendary announcer Mike Jay and his foundation supporting athletes around the state.

Kamry Trine also competed Saturday in Iowa City, placing 2nd in the 400 meters.
