It was a clean defensive slate for the Pella summer teams on Tuesday, as the #2 in 3A Dutch baseball squad won 10-0 and the softball girls were 1-0 winners.
On the softball diamond, it was the Emma Eekhoff show. The stellar senior struck out 11 Tigers and was responsible for the lone run in the game with a solo home run. Head Coach Katie Banowetz says for the second consecutive game, Abby Melvin made key defensive plays at 2nd base as well. Riley Parks added two hits.
Pella’s baseball team spread the wealth in their lopsided victory. Isaiah Kettler earned the win on the mound with five shutout innings and four strikeouts, also adding a 3-for-4 performance at the plate with a double and two runs batted in. Lake Cowman continued his torrid bounce back, hitting both a home run and a double, scoring twice. Anderson Schirm and Hayes Lautenbach also each had two hits and Landyn Bethards added a two-run single and struck out four batters in relief.
The Dutch girls are up to 6-6 overall and the baseball team has won seven in a row to improve to 12-3 overall. Both teams are in Oskaloosa for Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheaders this evening.
