It was another strong night of summer performances for the Dutch summer teams as they returned to conference action on Wednesday, as Pella took all four varsity games played in Oskaloosa.

Pella’s #2 in 3A baseball team won 3-1 and 4-2 over the Indians; the Dutch softball girls won 13-0 and 13-5.

The Dutch boys leaned into their pitching staff to get to nine wins in a row. Nathan VandeLune allowed just one run in a complete game effort in game one; Hayes Lautenbach struck out seven batters in six innings of four-hit ball to get the victory in game two, closed out by a three-strikeout performance by Samuel Carlson. Lautenbach added a solo home run in the second game.

It was an explosive offensive night for Pella on the softball diamond, keyed by 28 total hits in the twin bill. Emma Eekhoff added 11 Ks in the circle to get to 400 strikeouts in her career, complimented by the 7-for-8 performance with two home runs she claimed at the dish. Katie Scheckel was 5-for-8 with a pair of dingers and 10 RBI between the two games.

Pella’s softball team improves to 8-6 overall and 6-4 in conference competition; they travel to Indianola tonight for a rubber match on the season series. Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on 92.1 KRLS.

The Dutch baseball team is up to 14-3 overall and 8-2 in league play; they too have a rubber match with Indianola on the road, which will be played on Friday night. Live coverage will begin at 6:30 p.m. on 92.1 KRLS.
