A 29-year-old Newton woman has been placed on probation for one year and given a $430 civil penalty for depositing two stolen Capstone rent checks into her account. In January, Newton Police say “Pay to the order of Baylee Loupee” was forged on the back of a couple of rent checks for two different Capstone clients. One check was for $362, while the other was for $290. Baylee Sue Loupee was charged with two counts of Forgery, which is a class “D” felony. Court documents show she accepted a negotiated guilty plea. Loupee pleaded guilty to 4th Degree Theft, which is a serious misdemeanor, and the forgery charges were dismissed. Her sentence from District Court Judge Steven Holwerda also includes paying $652 restitution.
