The Indianola softball team defeated Pella Christian at home Friday night in a Little Hawkeye Conference matchup heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

The Indians offense exploded for nine runs in the first inning which started with a lead off home run by Alexa Guyer. Indianola would plate 13 in the first inning with the Indians recording eight total hits in the inning. Indianola would go on to score six more runs in the second inning, and two in the third to pick up the lopsided 17-0 win. Guyer had four hits in the contest as Ava Tichy and Sam Gripp also had multiple hit games. In the third inning, Indianola brought in several different pinch hitters off the bench. Tichy who was the starting pitcher for the Indians held the Eagles to four total hits in the contest with two coming from Brynn Roozeboom and Amaia Agre and Rachel Kacmarynski each recording one.

Indianola Head Coach Stacy Evans says after a tough week she feels everything came together for her team Friday night.

“I’m so proud of the girls and I’m absolutely ecstatic that we got so many of our players into that game tonight. It’s been a rough week. We’ve had some pretty heavy games. We’ve had our moments that we played really decent, we’ve had some hits that we’ve connected here and there but tonight was just a really nice night and everyone was connecting and full force on the base paths. We did shift a few things up in our lineup, and now we’re leading off with Guyer followed by Tessa, Sam, and the rest of the group is following behind them.”

Pella Christian Head Coach Mindi Kacmarynski says that despite the loss she felt like her team was still having good approaches at the plate.

“I know we didn’t have any runs but I thought we had some really quality at-bats. Rachel gets on in the first inning and not that they are always meaning hits but I thought they were quality at-bats. They were hunting for a good pitch, they were making solid contact so I was pleased with how they approached the plate and how solid they hit the ball. This is our third time playing Indianola and honestly nobody, DCG, Norwalk, any of them have seen the ball as well as Indianola has.”

Indianola improves to 14-2 on the season and will play in a home tournament today starting with a game against Martendale-St Marys at 10:00 am. Pella Christian falls to 8-15 on the season and will be back in action on Tuesday against North Mahaska.
