An ordinance was approved by the Pella City Council that places the City of Pella within compliance of a new state law that overrides previous rules related to fireworks for municipalities. Pella City Code no longer prohibits the use of fireworks within the city limits on July 3rd and 4th and December 31st, a move to be in compliance with Senate File 303. Other agenda items approved include:
– Public Hearing for sewer lining project on several city streets
– Public Hearings to vacate several sanitary sewer and water main easements
– Public Hearing to change a Planned Unit Development with Vintage Estates
– Special Event Permit for Fight for Freedom 5K
– Resolution for Preliminary Plat for Vintage Estates
– Resolution to Establish UMB Bank as paying agent for bonds
– Resolution securing $15.6 million in sales and services tax revenue bonds for Rec Center project
– Resolution approving infrastructure grant agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration for airport improvements

During policy and planning, the council discussed two proposed urban renewal plans for housing projects and the use of tax increment financing.
