A company from Des Moines will oversee the transformation of the former Jasper County Animal Rescue League building in Newton, into the Jasper County Law Enforcement Training Center. During Tuesday’s County Board of Supervisors meeting, a $79,900 contract was approved with BBS Architects and Engineers. They will create the building’s new design to accommodate a classroom for up to 40 people, two to three offices, two private restrooms with showers, a breakroom with kitchenette, garage bay for ambulance parking, and a large unfinished training space. Jasper County Maintenance Director Adam Sparks presented BBS’s contract to the County Supervisors.

“Design and construction documentation $47,700. Bid assistance $3,200. Construction administration $24,000. Then the structural engineering brings it up to $79,900.”

Sparks also told the Jasper County Board of Supervisors the building still needs to be emptied out before construction can take place.
