Dirt and concrete work for the parent drive-up lane, bus drive, and parking at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Newton has been impacted by recent rain storms. Newton Superintendent Tom Messenger says work delays due to wet conditions has sparked some concern about this part of the renovation and building addition project being completed by the time school starts late next month.

“For about the last week, we have had water standing in a large portion of the area. So we are monitoring that closely. At this point in time we are still planning on everything being completed by the start of the school year, but again we are going to watch it really closely.”

Messenger says another update on the project with the contractor will occur within the next week, and more will be known then. He added that If changes have to be made to student drop off and pick-up at Thomas Jefferson Elementary when school begins, that information will be shared with parents as soon as it’s known.
