The Knoxville Football Squad ran into a buzzsaw in Williamsburg on Friday and fell to the Raiders 48-15 heard live on 95.3 KNIA. The Panthers got off on the wrong foot almost immediately by fumbling on the 1st play from scrimmage which allowed Williamsburg to take the ball and drive for a touchdown three plays later. The Raiders would score 48 1st half points to put the game out of reach early and get a running clock in the 2nd half. Knoxville did get two scoring drives in the 2nd half. Roston McCarty ran in from 24 yards out in the 3rd quarter, and TaShawn Conner hauled in a 56 yard score in the 4th quarter. Those scores, all things considered, were a focal point of Coach Matt Dunkin after the game pointing out some positives that came out from the loss.
Dunkin: “Going out and doing your jobs and cleaning things up. We wanted to get some drives in the 2nd half and build from that.”
McCarty had 49 yards rushing and 147 yards passing. Conner caught three passes for 79 yards and a touchdown. Knoxville is now 1-7 and will wrap up the season next week at home against Nevada.
