The 10-15 Newton Volleyball team opens Regional play in Bondurant-Farrar tonight, while the NCMP Aquagirls face two conference foes in Indianola. 

The Cardinal volleyball players will attempt to advance past the 12-19 Bluejays, and earn a second round match in Region 5 at Class 4A #6 Norwalk on Thursday. Newton’s team leaders include junior Morgan Frehse with 219 kills, senior Isabelle Rawlins with 491 assists, and sophomore Camryn Klein with 138 digs. Frehse and Klein share the ace lead, as they both have 25. Bondurant-Farrar’s kill leader has 171, and there are four other players with over 100. The Bluejay’s assist leader has 537, while the digs’ leader is at 214. Bondurant-Farrar also has five players with 20 aces or more, with the high mark of 30. Tonight’s Class 4A Region 5 first round match against Bondurant-Farrar starts at 7p.m.

The Newton Colfax-Mingo Pella Aquagirls face Indianola and Oskaloosa in the Little Hawkeye Conference Meet at the Indianola Wellness Campus. The Aquagirls finished ahead of the Indianola Indians at the Grinnell Swim Meet in early September, and at a meet in Ankeny earlier this month. The team also defeated the Oskaloosa Indians 110-50 in a dual meet at the Newton YMCA in mid-September. The Little Hawkeye Conference meet in Indianola begins at 5:30 P.M.
