Going into a rematch with PCM in the second round of the playoffs this Friday, the Pella Christian football team is confident that they can learn from that previous contest to produce a better outcome this time around.
The Eagles and Mustangs previously met in the Class 2A District 7 opener on September 19th, with PCM winning that game 58-27. Despite the final score, Pella Christian hung tough with the #2 ranked team in 2A through the first half. The Eagles trailed just 23-20 at halftime of that previous matchup, but were outscored 35-7 in the second half. Senior running back Landon Nunnikhoven says that while things got away from them in that previous matchup, they are using that past experience to make the necessary changes to avenge the mid-season loss.
“You live and you learn. We played a good first half of football last time we played, and I believe that we can do that for the full four quarters this time. We have a good amount of players back that are really helpful, but we’ve got to remember and we’ve got to live and you learn we have to make changes. And right now we’re a better football team than what we were a week four.”
Coverage of the rematch between Pella Christian and the Mustangs at PCM Friday can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS, beginning with pregame coverage at 6:30 pm.
