Newton High School finished in eighth place in T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights competition. The school was one of 25 high schools nationwide eligible for a $1 million football stadium upgrade. The winner was announced on Thursday, with Dierks High School in Dierks, Arkansas winning the competition with over 1,988,000 votes. Newton received just over 271,000 votes, and had already won $31,000 under the T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights program. Head football coach Andy Swedenhjelm says most of that money is being used on new equipment for the high school’s weight room.
