Four athletes from the fall sports teams at Central College received American Rivers Conference player of the week honors from their performances last week.

Running back Cody Klein was dominant in the run game Saturday for the Dutch football team, as they cruised past Buena Vista 52-27. Klein carried the ball ten times for 212 yards, and scored three rushing touchdowns of 47, 29, and 26 yards. The performance earned Klein the conference’s football offensive player of the week, and helped Central improve to 7-1 on the year. The Dutch travel to Indianola this Saturday to face off against Simpson.

The Central ‘s men’s soccer team played two games last week, the regular season finale against Loras and conference tournament first round matchup against Nebraska Wesleyan, and goalkeeper Morgan Finkenbinder allowed a combined zero goals on six saves. His two shutouts were enough to win him men’s soccer defensive player of the week. The Dutch now travel to Decorah to play Luther in round two of the A-R-C tournament today.

The Central women’s soccer team had both defensive and offensive players of the week in the conference. Goalie Zoey Sizemore won defensive player of the week for the second time in three weeks, making it the third time she has received the award this season. In two games, Sizemore tallied 11 saves while only allowing two goals. On the other side of the ball, Rylee Rustad was the offensive player of the week, after a big performance in the first round of the A-R-C tournament against Wartburg. In a 3-2 comeback win against the Knights, Rustad scored two of the goals while assisting on the other. She got the scoring started with a goal assisted by Kylie Bloomstrom at the 70:13 mark, then followed it up with an unassisted goal at the 77:42 mark. After tying the game, Rustad assisted the game-winning goal by Grace Wolford. The Dutch now travel to Dubuque to play the top-seeded Spartans in round two of the conference tournament today.
