Orders for Thanksgiving dinner rolls can now be placed with the Iowa Culinary Institute Baking and Pastry Arts Program at the DMACC Newton Campus. It’s the program’s Sixth Annual Thanksgiving Dinner Roll Fundraiser. Students in the program, which was launched in the Fall of 2020, prepare freshly-baked white or whole wheat rolls that can be ordered for Thanksgiving at $8.00 per dozen. Orders may be placed online at baking.dmacc.edu.
Chef Ryan Binney leads the Baking and Pastry Arts Program at the DMACC Newton Campus. He says proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to help cover travel costs for the students to attend a Baking Expo next summer.
In the last two years, the fundraiser has set records for total orders, with students preparing nearly 10,000 dinner rolls. The order deadline is 12 p.m. on Monday, November 24th. Roll orders are to be picked up from 10 a.m. to Noon on Wednesday, November 26, at both the DMACC Newton Campus in Newton and the DMACC Urban/Des Moines Campus in downtown Des Moines.
Students who complete the one-year Iowa Culinary Institute Baking and Pastry Arts diploma program at the DMACC Newton Campus graduate as baking artisans who are prepared to begin working or to continue on to earn a two-year culinary degree.
