A Butterball Turkey Talk expert is featured on this weekend’s In Touch with South Central Iowa.
Butterball Turkey Talk expert Michael Maddox discusses preparations for the Thanksgiving holiday, the proper way to cook and thaw a turkey, common mistakes people make while cooking poultry, and the excitement for the upcoming holiday.
“We say the Thursday before which is the 20th this year is Butterball National Thaw Day. We say four pounds per day so if you have a 20 pound turkey it’s going to take about five days to thaw but once that is completely thawed it can be in your refrigerator for up to four days like that which is perfect for Thanksgiving. The key with that is to put your frozen turkey on a tray to collect any water or condensation from the freezer,” says Maddox.
Butterball produces over one billion pounds of turkey annually. The interview will also be available later this weekend on the In Touch with South Central Iowa podcast at KNIAKRLS.com.
