Norwalk City Council has approved several new site plans that reflect the steady commercial and recreational growth happening across the community.

One of the updates includes an amended plan for the City State Bank Field House, where developers will add shade structures, such as pergolas, between the building and Mullet’s restaurant. Because the additions are permanent structures, the project required formal site plan approval, despite the relatively minor changes.

A larger discussion centered on the site plan for Affinity Credit Union, planned at the corner of Cherry Street and High Road, just south of Hyper Energy and west of Fairway Fields. The area already experiences heavy traffic during the summer months, and the project’s driveway layout necessitated a close review. Norwalk City Manager Luke Nelson tells KNIA News the city is keeping a close eye on traffic in the area as new businesses move in.

“We were a little bit concerned about them having two access drives and creating a little bit of a traffic issue. But ultimately, I think the consensus was it made sense to allow a right in and right out on High Road. But we do anticipate there’s gonna be a lot of traffic in that whole area.”

Nelson said Affinity Credit Union will be a strong addition to the corridor, but the city continues to monitor traffic patterns as new businesses open, restaurants expand, and nearby recreation facilities draw more visitors. The approved plans now allow both projects to move forward as Norwalk’s commercial districts continue to grow.
