
The Indianola basketball teams swept Ottumwa in a road doubleheader Tuesday evening, the girls winning 45-28 and the boys winning 59-39.
The girls fell behind 12-9 after the first quarter, but outscored the Bulldogs 15-6 in the second quarter to lead 24-17 at the break. Both teams had a slow start to the third quarter offensively, but Indianola would lead 32-22 going into the fourth, and then held on for the win, holding Ottumwa to just 11 second half points. Madi Grover led the Indians with 18 points.
The Indianola boys jumped out to a lead early and never looked back, leading 16-8 after the first quarter and started on a 10-0 run to start the second as they led 36-22 at halftime. The Indians outscored the Bulldogs 15-5 in the third to lead 51-27, then coasted in the fourth to get the season opening win. Easton McGraw had 20 points, and Jakob Graham had 15 points.
The girls are now 2-0 and will take on DM Roosevelt on Thursday, the boys are 1-0 and will host Newton on Friday.
The Indianola boys swimming team fell to the Newton Cardinals 87-75 in their opening meet at the Indianola Wellness Campus. The Indians won two events, with Ryan Torrence winning the 400 Freestyle, and the 200 Freestyle Relay team of Nate Gondek, Elisha Bacon, Tyson Frease, and Ryan Torrence also placing first. The Indians will next compete on Saturday traveling to Newton.
