A Newton man is scheduled to be sentenced February 2nd for attempting to sell guns he stole during a break-in at a Newton home on February 20th of last year. On Tuesday, twenty-two-year-old Blake Logue pleaded guilty to trafficking in stolen weapons, and three counts of possessing stolen firearms. The charges are all class D felonies. Logue was facing eight felony charges, as Newton Police allege he stole two shotguns and a rifle. The court filed criminal complaint states security camera video from Woodrow Wilson Elementary school, which is near the house that was burglarized, shows the suspect walking toward the home at the time of the break-in, and then walking away about half an hour later. Police say Logue returned to the house in a vehicle just before 5:30 that night and stole a .222 rifle, a .410 bolt-action shotgun and a .410 break-action shotgun. The criminal complaint details how a witness claims he dropped Logue off at the crime scene, and was unaware Logue was burglarizing the home. When Logue returned to the car, the witness said he was carrying three long gun cases. Newton officers also reported finding a text message and photos of one of the missing guns on Logue’s phone. He was allegedly attempting to trade the bolt-action .410 shotgun, and the photos of it confirmed it’s a match to the stolen shotgun. Logue is free on a $45,000 bond pending his sentencing hearing.
