Pella Christian senior Bailey Vos signed her letter of intent to join the women’s track and field program at the University of Northern Iowa on Tuesday.
Vos has enjoyed a successful athletic career on Eagle Lane, competing as a member of both the cross country and girls track and field teams. In cross country, Vos was a four-time State Meet qualifier, and helped the Eagles team make it to Fort Dodge as a group in three of those four years. In her four races at State, Vos earned a pair of second-team All-State honors with 17th place finishes as a freshman and junior, while also taking 30th as a sophomore. Additionally, Bailey also broke the school record for the fastest 5K time in program history, completing the course in Fort Dodge in 19:36.4.
As a member of the track and field team, Vos won a combined three individual and relay state titles last spring to help Pella Christian secure their first girls State Championship Trophy in school history. In her career, Bailey has won seven total individual and relay state titles, been a part of a Drake Relays Champion with the sprint medley relay team, and has 19 total top 10 finishes at the State Meet and the Drake Relays. She has also rewritten the record book for Eagles girls track and field, setting the new program standards in the 200 and 400 meter dashes, and contributing to setting the school records in 4x200m, 4x400m, and the sprint medley relays. Bailey said that a key factor in her decision to attend Northern Iowa was the balance they provided in challenging student-athletes to be their best in competition while also valuing the student-athlete as an individual.
“I think in each school I kind of tried to envision myself in their athletic program and everything. And I really wanted to find a school that was going to have good balance, where I could still be really competitive and try to get faster, but also where I knew that I was going to be really valued as a person, above being valued as an athlete. and I just really feel like I got that from the coaches and from the girls, and so I think that’s what stood out to me the most about UNI’s program.”
