
The Pella City Council swore in its newly-elected members at the end of Tuesday night’s meeting. Calvin Bandstra begins his second non-consecutive term as an at-large representative, while Spencer Carlstone and Lynn Branderhorst were both re-elected in their respective wards. The council also recognized Mark DeJong for his 48 years of service on the council, which concluded with Tuesday’s meeting.
The Pella City Council approved a special event permit request for a grand opening of the Caldwell Park Ice Arena in January and approved tax increment financing extensions for the Fountain Hills 4 and Fox Ridge Development Urban Renewal areas. The council also approved a three-year extension of the Local Option Sales and Services Tax redistribution agreement with Marion County, the final plat for Fox Ridge Development, and public improvements at Fox Ridge Development. Additionally, they approved a change order and accepted public improvements for the Highway 163-West Washington Street traffic light project and for the Pella Municipal Airport Hangar and Apron Expansion Site Grading. Concluding the resolutions portion of the meeting, the council approved change order No. 14 for the Pella Recreation & Aquatics Center Project and approved the Caldwell Park Ice Rink Chiller System Sponsor Names.
Prior to the meeting concluding with the oaths of office and proclamation honoring Mark De Jong, the council also adopted the third reading of ordinances amending city code for use of electric scooters and personal transportation devices and to prohibit camping and the storage of personal items in public spaces.
