Jasper County RSVP’s Connection Calls program has been in operation for about three months, helping older residents to remain connected to other people. Jasper County RSVP Grant Manager and Director Sara Patterson says trained volunteers make social phone calls once a week to seniors 55 and older.

“Just a friendly call, a check-in, a conversation. On the backside of it, it is a wellness check to see if they have had any health problems. But really it’s just placing that social call. That’s why we are calling it ‘Connection Calls’.”

Patterson says the program started in October with well over a dozen volunteers, and has been well used. She notes new volunteers are welcome, and training sessions take less than an hour. Hear more about the Connection Calls Program on today’s Let’s Talk Newton.
