A standout state track and field champion and All-State football player at Pella High School is keeping his competitive dream alive after completing his collegiate experience.

Kody Huisman just finished his time as a member of the Virginia Tech Hokies, playing in his final year of eligibility after winning an NCAA FCS National Championship with North Dakota State nearly one year ago. Huisman recorded 38 tackles for the Hokies, playing in 12 games this past fall season, earning All-ACC Honorable Mention recognition.

Huisman has hired an agent and is now pursuing a potential career in the National Football League. Kody will play in the American Bowl on January 22nd, which will be featured on the NFL Network. The game features several outgoing college players and serves as one of many chances for players like Kody to improve their prospects ahead of the NFL Draft.

Kody was a 2021 Drake Relays shot put champion and a multiple-time All-State Football selection with the Dutch.

Kody Huisman is featured on KNIA/KRLS this week on “Today’s Lely Radio Sports Page,” airing on New Year’s Day 2026.
