A Marshall County man is facing over a dozen charges after leading Jasper and Marshall County Deputies on a high-speed chase Monday night. The Jasper County charges filed against thirty-four-year-old Zachary Hobbs of rural Laurel range from traffic offenses to a class D felony charge for eluding at speeds 25 mph above the speed limit.
Hobbs was taken into custody shortly before 8 p.m. Monday after crashing the 2005 Chevrolet Colorado he was driving near an intersection northwest of Laurel, in Marshall County. Jasper County Sheriff Brad Shutts says a Jasper County deputy attempted to stop Hobbs for speeding near the Marshall County line, but he failed to stop. The ensuing vehicle pursuit took deputies into Marshall County, looping around Laurel before heading back southbound. Sheriff Shutts says a Jasper County deputy successfully deployed stop sticks, puncturing one of the tires on Hobbs’ vehicle. However, the vehicle continued at speeds reaching 100 mph, while violating numerous stop signs. When it crashed, the rural Laurel man was taken into custody without further incident and charged with the following:
Operating while intoxicated 2nd offense
Carrying weapons while intoxicated
Tampering with an interlock device
Eluding-Speeds over 25 mph
Speeding
Fail to obey stop sign (ten counts)

Careless driving ( three counts)

Hobbs was held in the Jasper County Jail on a $14,175 bond pending his initial court appearance.
