The Newton boys and girls basketball teams play their third conference road game of the season tonight at Oskaloosa, and their third straight away game.

The Cardinal boys are 3-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference after Tuesday night’s 12-point loss at Pella Christian. Newton is averaging 53 points a game while the Indians, who are 2-2 in conference play and 6-2 overall, have a 65-point per game average. Cardinals head coach Jason Carter says getting that first conference win this evening will require a good-team effort.

“Oskaloosa is a super tough team, and they are playing pretty well right now.”

The Newton girls hope to pick up their second straight conference victory to improve to 2-3 in the league. The Cardinals are 5-4 overall following Tuesday’s 44-34 win at Pella Christian. Payton Carkhuff and Addyson Cibula were the high scorers for Newton, with each contributing ten points. The Oskaloosa girls are 3-6 overall and winless in the Little Hawkeye Conference with three losses. Head coach Jake Bennett says the Pella Christian game was a good example of team basketball, and he hopes there’s no let down tonight.

“I thought we did a fantastic job of being able to move the ball and finding the open shots along the way.”

The Newton at Oskaloosa basketball games can be heard live on the KRLS3 stream tonight, with pregame coverage beginning at 5:45 p.m.
