Iowa House District 38 Representative Jon Dunwell will not be seeking another term. The Newton Republican says his decision came after much reflection and prayer. He won a special election for the House seat in 2021. Since then, Dunwell says he’s championed religious freedoms and increasing investments in education, and supported Iowa families through meaningful legislation. Now, the Newton Republican says he’s prepared for his last legislative session.
“The last couple of months have been gearing up and getting ready for the start of the session. So on Monday morning we have our breakfast together as legislators. Then we head into a week of kicking everything off with the State of the State, State of the Courts, State of the National Guard addresses. Then the following week we really dig in and get started for the session.”
When his current term ends on January 1st of next year, Dunwell will be undertaking an expanded leadership role at the Family Leader, a politically and socially active, conservative Christian organization based in Iowa. It’s focused on promoting traditional family values and “God-honoring” public policy by influencing government and culture.
