
The Newton boys and girls basketball teams finish the first half of the conference schedule in Norwalk tonight, while the Cardinal boys and girls bowling teams participate in a triangular in Des Moines this afternoon.
The 3-6 Cardinal boys basketball team is still looking for their first Little Hawkeye Conference win after four losses. The Norwalk boys have won six in a row, and are tied with Pella for the conference lead at 3-1. Newton has averaged 52 points per game this season while the Warriors’ average is 54. But Norwalk’ s opponents are only averaging 49 points per game, while the Cardinals are allowing an average of 62 points per game.
The Newton girls basketball team has won three straight games and has a conference record of 2-3. The Norwalk girls are ranked third in class 4A, and have an overall record of 9-1. They average 65 points per game, while opponents average 40 points a game. The Cardinal girls’ scoring average is 39 points, while their opponents average 36 points. The Cardinal bowling teams participate in a triangular with Marshalltown and Des Moines Lincoln at Bowlerama Lanes in Des Moines. The Newton girls are 6-1 and coming off their first loss of the season Saturday at Cardinal lanes to Ottumwa. The Cardinal boys also lost to Ottumwa on Saturday, and are 2-4 overall. Today’s triangular in Des Moines begins at 2 p.m.
