The Pella School Board approved the resignation of board member Lisa Jansen at their meeting Tuesday. Jansen has been battling a long-term illness and has missed several meetings for treatment. Members of the board recently wore special t-shirts at a meeting to support her recovery. Jansen’s resignation will be official June 16th. The board will seek to appoint someone 30 days after that time, with a process involving interviews of potential candidates. Board President Joan Corbin would make a recommendation to the school board on July 15th. Those interested in joining the Pella School Board to replace Jansen are asked to contact Pella School District Administration. The board set the last day of school for the current academic year on June 6th instead of the 7th, as previously scheduled. The district lost 62 hours due to winter weather, and had 44 ½ hours built in, leaving about three full days of school that needed to be made up. The board also approved a change to graduation requirements, a resolution on sports concussion protocol and when students can return to play, and reviewed the Marion County Child Care Needs Assessment.
