The Knoxville Police Department’s K9 vehicle is currently out of service after a two vehicle accident Sunday evening. According to an investigation by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Knoxville Police Officer Christopher Rowland was responding to a rescue call with his emergency lights and siren activated when he arrived at the intersection of Lincoln and Robinson Streets. As the patrol car entered the intersection it was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Lincoln driven by a male juvenile. There were no injuries reported and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle charges are pending. Police Chief Dan Losada tells KNIA/KRLS the department is awaiting estimates on the cost of the damage and the K9 unit will have limited availability until the vehicle can be repaired.
