The winter season has officially ended for local high school sports as the #4 Pella Christian Eagles fell in the Class 2A state semifinals to #1 Central Lyon 57-51, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS Thursday.
The Eagles fell behind due to a flurry of three point shots by the Lions in the first quarter, and never led in the contest. Pella Christian pulled to within one possession despite trailing by more than seven several times throughout the game, but could not find the bucket to put them on top.
Senior Levi Schelhaas finished his Eagles’ basketball career with 16 points to lead P.C., followed by a 14-point, 14-rebound double-double from Eric Mulder in his final high school basketball game.
Pella Christian finishes the 2022 boys basketball season with a top four finish for the 13th time in 16 state tournament appearances, all coming since 1990, and say farewell to seven seniors.
