The Pella Christian girls tennis team dropped their first match of the season 9-2 to Pella on Wednesday, while the Eagles boys team was swept 11-0 by the cross-town rival Dutch.

On Eagle Lane, the Pella Christian girls managed to pick up a win in both singles and doubles play, but fell to 9-1 overall on the spring. The Eagles’ two victories came from Addie Van Arendonk at #3 singles, after she outlasted her opponent 6-2, 6-7, 1-0, and Ali Pleima and Elsa Breems 6-2, 6-4 at #5 doubles. Despite dropping the other four doubles matches, Pella Christian’s duos of Reagan De Vries and Ava Breems at #1, Van Arendonk and Lexi Branderhorst at #2, and Trinley Gibson and Nora Van Arendonk at #4 all forced a third set before falling to their opponents.

In the boys contest at Pella, the Eagles hung touch with the Dutch in doubles play, but were unable to pick up any wins en route to falling to 8-5 overall on the season. Pella Christian’s duos of Rob Schreur and Rhett Terpstra at #2, Jonathan Van Gorp and Johnson Morgan at #3, Evan Tschetter and Liam Zula at #4, and Hudson Meixner and Gilbert Flagel at #5 all won at least seven games in their doubles matches but it wasn’t enough to avoid the sweep.

The Eagles boys tennis team will look to bounce back on Monday at home against Oskaloosa, while the girls tennis team is off until hosting the Little Hawkeye Conference Tournament next Wednesday.
