Iowa’s Ag Secretary was among the tractor drivers on the first leg of Monday’s WHO Great Iowa Tractor ride. Mike Naig piloted a brand new John Deere enclosed cab tractor from Iowa Speedway on the southeast side of Newton to the school in Baxter. Naig participated in another tractor ride from Mount Pleasant to Washington last week. He likens tractor rides to family reunions.

“Folks who see each other at these events and look forward to it. Oh course lots of stories that get told and maybe even embellished. But a lot of fun and a great celebration of agriculture.”

Over 350 tractors are registered for this year’s WHO Tractor Ride, and Iowa’s Ag Secretary says each has its own story.

“I love to visit with people. They will say this was grandpa’s tractor, this was our first tractor, this is the first tractor I plowed with. Those types of things.”

Today is day two of the WHO Great Iowa Tractor Ride with a 67 mile route with stops by Key Cooperative in Sully, at Pella Christian High School, and at Stoney Point Barn south of Reasnor.
