As part of their Youth Entertainment Series, the Pella Opera House hosted juniors from Pella High School on Tuesday for a performance of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night performed by The Lord Chamberlain’s Men from London, England.
The Twelfth Night is a romantic comedy written by Shakespeare, that is centered on twins Viola and Sebastian, who are separated in a shipwreck. The Lord Chamberlain’s Men, founded in 2004 and named after the company William Shakespeare was a part of and wrote some of his most famous plays for, is a touring theatre company that performs Shakespeare’s plays throughout the United Kingdom. Artistic Director and Producer Peter Stickney said that the performance at the Pella Opera House was just their third in the United States, and that he appreciated the reception they received from the juniors at Pella High School.
“It’s a beautiful theatre, and a really lovely, intimate space, and we were lucky enough to be joined by a couple of hundred students from Pella High School for that early morning performance. It was really well received I think, there was a great, lovely reaction from the students, lots of laughter, lots of applause, and I think they were really gripped by that performance.”
