Water mains in Newton are being cleared of built-up internal corrosion and residue this weekend. Hydrant flushing is occurring throughout the city, so residents may notice a temporary drop in water pressure or slight discolorization. If that occurs, residents should run the cold water tap until the water is clear, and avoid using hot water or doing laundry until then. Flushing occurred north of 1st Avenue from 10 p.m. last night to 6 a.m. this morning, and will take place south of 1st Avenue from 10 p.m. tonight to 6 a.m. Sunday. Only high-flow hydrants and those at dead ends will be flushed.
