The Pella Community Food Shelf will be hosting the Kids in the Kitchen cooking class on November 13th.
As part of the event, parents will drop their children and the students will receive a lesson on kitchen safety, followed by a time to cook and apply what they have learned. After making mini pizzas and peanut butter cookies, those attending will have the opportunity to enjoy what they made, before cleaning up and debriefing to end the program. Food Shelf Executive Director Melissa Zula says the goal of the event is to set children up to make responsible, healthy decisions about their food.
“This is geared for ages 8-12, and we’re going to just teach them some really simple tools of, not only how to cut and prepare some things, but also some really simple recipes so that they can do things themselves. It’s all about how do we make you independent to be able to really make healthy choices on your own.”
The Kids in the Kitchen cooking class on November 13th will be held from 4-5:30 pm at the Pella Community Food Shelf, and all students from the community are encouraged to attend. To register for the class, stop in to the Food Shelf, email them at theshelf.pella@gmail.org, or direct message them on Facebook.
