The Newton Fire Department hosted a Captain’s Ceremony this week. Friends, family, and retired crew members all gathered on Tuesday to celebrate David (DJ) Beck’s promotion to Captain. Fire Marshal Jacob Halferty led the ceremony, while other participants included Captain Ryan Volk, Chaplain Beau Church, and Mayor Evelyn George, who performed the Oath of Office. DJ’s badge was pinned by his wife, Missy, while both former and current crew members assisted with awarding him a new helmet and shield that represented the new position of Captain. Ron Husted performed traditional bagpipe music and refreshments were served after the ceremony. DJ joined the Newton Fire Department on December 27, 2022.
