
Central Football Cruises Past Buena Vista
Piling up 375 rushing yards, the Central football team raced to a 52-27 win over Buena Vista heard live on 92.1 KRLS on Saturday.
The Dutch (7-1, 5-1 American Rivers Conference) scored 47 seconds into the game with a 47-yard rushing touchdown by Cody Klein and never looked back. Central had 13 different players with at least one rush attempt but it was Klein who shined with 10 attempts for 212 yards and three touchdowns. Aidan Pollock and Eli Rouse also had rushing touchdowns while Tate Jirovsky and Nolan Meyer had receiving touchdowns. Quarterback Hunter Hoffman had two touchdowns and 143 yards, completing 13 of 21 pass attempts.
Defensively, linebacker Cole Clark led the team with nine tackles, including 1.5 for loss. Trent Cakerice had seven tackles and a sack. Central totaled eight pass break-ups, including three by Ben DeMeulenaere and two by Nate Fischer. DeMeulenaere also blocked a field goal on the first Beaver possession of the second half.
Central goes to Indianola for a 1 pm game against Simpson next Saturday.

Central Women’s Cross Country 2nd, Men 3rd at ARC Championships
Competing at the American Rivers Conference Championships, the Central men’s and women’s cross country team had a combined six all-conference performers en route to a pair of top-three finishes on Saturday.
The Dutch women took second place in the 6,000-meter race in Dubuque, while the men finished in third place on the 8,000-meter course.
The Central women were led by senior Peyton Steffen, who took second-place in a time of 21:30.1. Freshman Maddy Stevens was the league’s top newcomer, taking fourth (21:47.0). Teah Miller and Kyra Cordes gave the Dutch women four all-conference performers by finishing in the top 15. Miller was seventh (22:09.6) and Cordes was 13th (22:43.3). Also in the varsity lineup for Central were Addie Doughan in 22nd (23:11.5), Breckyn Petersen in 23rd (23:11.6) and Leah Bontrager in 31st (23:28.6).

The Dutch men secured the program’s second top-three finish in the last three years, but it’s first on the road since 2015. Jack Brown and William Wadsley gave the Central men a pair of top-10 finishes at the top of the lineup, with Brown taking eighth (24:17.5) and Wadsley finishing in 10th (24:22.9). The other three scorers for the Dutch were Donovan Card in 37th (25:26.0), Jack Every in 38th (25:27.3) and Ben Every in 45th (25:37.6). Completing the seven-man varsity lineup were Andrew Mahaffey in 47th (25:41.7) and Mason Back in 61st (25:57.3).
The Central cross country teams go to Waverly for the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional on Saturday, November 15th.

Rustad Leads Central Women Soccer Rally to Advance to in League Tournament
An offensive rampage by junior Rylee Rustad gave the Central women’s soccer team a 3-2 win and a spot in next week’s American Rivers Conference tournament semifinals.
After gifting the Knights an own goal in the 28th minute, Wartburg made it 2-0 in the 31st minute. Central was held scoreless through 70 minutes before Rustad took a pass from Kylie Bloomstrom and gave the Dutch hope with her first goal of the contest at the 70:13 mark. Just over seven minutes later, Rustad connected on an own goal to level the contest. Only nine minutes after that, Rustad put a ball in the box and Grace Wolford buried the eventual game-winning goal at the 86:37 mark. Zoey Sizemore made six saves in goal for Central, helping secure head coach Mike Kobylinski his’ 150th career victory.
The Dutch will make a second consecutive trip to the league tournament semifinals, where they will meet top-seeded Dubuque on Wednesday night.

Dutch Men’s Soccer Blanks Prairie Wolves to Advance in League Tournament
Recording its eighth shutout of the season, the Dutch men’s soccer team advanced to the American Rivers Conference tournament semifinals with a 2-0 win over Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday.
Isaiah Guyton put the Dutch on the board by hitting a goal from distance with his left foot in the 20th minute. Zach Holtan made it 2-0 in the 79th minute, when a Cooper Collins corner kick was flicked across the mouth of the goal by Trysten Vasquez to the waiting foot of Holtan. Goalkeeper Morgan Finkenbinder made four saves while facing 11 shots.
The Dutch are making a second consecutive trip to the league tournament semifinals, where they will travel to top-seeded Luther on Wednesday night.

Central Volleyball Gives Dubuque a Run in Narrow Defeat
The Central volleyball team put up a fight against #20 Dubuque on Saturday, but ultimately fell 19-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-20, 15-10.
Leslie Snow once again led the Dutch in both kills (14) and digs (27). Sophia Folkerts added 12 kills and Kaitlyn Mumm had 11. Libero Colleen Kenney had 26 digs. Makayla Ribble had a team-high 29 assists while Landry Pacha had 20. Pacha also led the team with four service aces.
Central wraps up the regular season at home next Wednesday at 6 pm against Buena Vista.
