The PCM girls wrestling team is seeing strong numbers ahead of their inaugural season.

The PCM Board of Education approved the district starting their own girls wrestling program at a meeting on June 16th. Previously, the girls wrestlers at PCM were competing with Colfax-Mingo as part of a sharing agreement. However, Colfax-Mingo dropped PCM from the girls sharing agreement which left no place to wrestle for the Mustang girls which brought a proposal to the board from Activities Director Jeremy Swink for PCM to have their own program. The proposal was approved and Ervan DeVore was hired as the program’s first head coach in late August.

The Mustang girls are starting the program with 19 girls on the roster with just a few of them having wrestling experience. DeVore tells KNIA/KRLS that he excited for PCM to have their own program and for the future of the sport.

“I’m overly excited. This is something I’ve been pushing for. I’ve been wanting this and I would’ve been happy in any role I could’ve been in. I was fortunate enough to be the head coach. I’m in it, the girls are giving me 110% and I’m going to give them 110% back.”

The Mustang girls will start their season on Monday at North Polk.
