The second community input meeting regarding the Newton School District’s evaluation of continued participation in the Little Hawkeye Conference will take place at the high school tonight. During a similar meeting last week, Superintendent Tom Messinger, Athletics and Activities Director Ryan Rump, and High School Principal Michael Dale spoke for 40 minutes and spent another 40 minutes answering questions and taking public comments. After the meeting, Rump wanted to re-iterate that the evaluation of the district’s future conference affiliation is being done with the best interests of the students and the community in mind. He also encouraged anyone interested in the topic to complete a survey that district leaders will use in their decision-making process.
“If you haven’t had a chance to fill that out yet, I would encourage you to fill that out. We value everybody’s feedback because this is really a community topic we are facing here, because the school, in a lot of ways, is kind of the life-blood of the community. So we want to make sure we are valuing our stakeholders and valuing our community input.”
District administrators recommend those who plan to attend the community meeting wait until after the informational session to complete the survey. Completed surveys will be accepted now through this Friday, April 24th. An informational sheet is linked here to give additional background information.
Tonight’s community meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Newton High School Auditorium.
