Pella Christian Girls Soccer Downs Oskaloosa, Boys Soccer Narrowly Falls to Oskaloosa
The Pella Christian girls soccer teams used two goals in each half to defeat Oskaloosa 4-0 Tuesday evening, while an early goal doomed the Class 1A #8 Eagle boys in a 1-0 loss to the Indians on the road.
The Pella Christian girls grabbed the lead early in the contest and never looked back. Taityn De Vries found the back of the net just four and a half minutes into the game, before Lexi Terpstra beat defense on a breakaway in the 23rd minute to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Pella Christian continued to grow their lead after half, as a shot attempt was deflected by the goalie right to a wide open De Vries, who found the net for her second goal in the 52nd minute. The Eagles added their final goal in the 62nd minute, when Maggie Vos’ free kick found Terpstra, and her shot was deflected by the goalie to Jenna Vander Wilt for her first goal of the year. Tori Van Zee added an assist in the win, as Pella Christian improved to 6-3 overall.
In Oskaloosa, the ranked Eagle boys surrendered an early goal in the contest, which proved to be the difference. Head coach Mike Vander Molen said that the offense had some good possessions built up throughout the contest, but just couldn’t find the back of the net in falling to 7-4 overall.
The Pella Christian boys return to action on Thursday at Sigourney-Keota at 5:30 pm, while the girls are off until traveling to cross-town rival Pella next Tuesday.
