After earning their first win of the season this past week, the Pella Christian boys tennis team is looking to build on that momentum over their final five matches of the regular season.

The Eagles entered the season with just one player returning from their ten-man varsity lineup last year, and have many athletes competing in the sport for the first time. Head coach Aaron Fitzgerald says that with a lot of new players appearing in the lineup, they are focusing more on the play within matches rather than the results. Pella Christian has taken steps forward throughout the season, which culminated in their first victory of the season Thursday at Oskaloosa. Fitzgerald added that while they aren’t defining success by wins and losses, Thursday’s results provided confidence that they are trending towards being able to compete for victories both this season and in years to come.

“We’ve put such a big focus on the foundation work, that when they start to see it translate to wins, that gets them really excited. They’re concerned about the team, and they want the team to be successful. So I think the guys that we have, they’ve got the heart of great competitors, and I’m just excited to see what this team will be like in a couple years from now.”

The Eagles will look to pick up their second victory of the season on Tuesday, hosting Newton at 4:15 pm.
