The Pella Police Department welcomed the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Knoxville Police Department to recognize National Peace Officers Memorial Day on Friday. A ceremony was held to recognize fallen police officers and to honor the profession. The ceremony included remarks from Pella Police Captain Paul Haase and Police Chief Shane McSheehy, and also included a speech from Sharyl Hanthorn. Her first husband was John E. Van Haaften, a Pella Police Officer killed during an undercover operation in 1980.
