The Newton boys soccer team tied Fort Madison 1-1 at H. A. Lynn Stadium on Friday, and the Cardinals girls golf team placed eighth among eleven teams at the Fort Dodge Invitational. 

The Newton boys soccer team scored first against the Bloodhounds, as Troy Ramsey scored a goal with 34:59 seconds left in the first half. That was the only goal in the first 40 minutes of the game, and Ramsey’s sixth of the season. The senior is now tied for the team lead in scoring. Fort Madison got their goal 2:34 seconds into the second half. The Bloodhounds had more scoring opportunities in the final 40 minutes than the Cardinals, who had the offensive advantage in the first half.  Newton now has two ties and two wins, with thirteen losses. The Cardinal boys soccer team’s next game is the first round of Class 3A Substate against Winterset at Earlham on Tuesday.

The Newton girls golf team shot a 415 at the Fort Dodge Invitational at Fort Dodge Country Club, placing them eighth among the eleven teams. The top four golfers for the Cardinals among the 66 players were Sloan Broderson in 31st with a 99, Teeah Yoder 32nd with a 100, Addie Ratcliff’s 103 placed her 37th, and Brooklyn Sterling was 50th with a 113. Newton’s other two golfers were Mary Ham in 60th with a 123, and Sophia Maharry in 64th with a score of 130. The Newton girls golf team’s next competition will be the Class 3A Regional at the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown on Wednesday.
