The Norwalk girls soccer team won a pair of 1-0 decisions on the home pitch Friday night, defeating 11th-ranked in Class 2A Lewis Central and No. 1 in Class 2A Waverly-Shell Rock. The Waverly game was delayed by lightning with 23 minutes left and eventually called. The triangular also saw Waverly-Shell Rock defeat LC 5-1.
Norwalk, which is ranked 2nd in Class 2A, handed the Go-Hawks their first loss of the season courtesy of sophomore Bella Moede’s long first-half goal. Warrior coach Andrew Messer tells KNIA Sports that Moede’s score came from about 30 yards out and sailed over the Waverly goalie. It was Moede’s first goal of the season.
During the first match of the day, Norwalk senior Addy Wood scored the game-winner in the first half on an “Olimpico” goal off a corner kick. It was Wood’s team-leading 10th goal of the year. Warrior senior Katie Liedtke defended the net for the team’s ninth and 10th defensive shutouts.
Norwalk improved to 12-1-2 overall. Waverly-Shell Rock is now 11-1-1 and Lewis Central fell to 10-7-1. The Warrior girls’ next match is in Adel Tuesday night against ADM.
