Newton City Administrator Matt Muckler is getting a 2% increase in his annual salary. Muckler has held the position since 2017, and his newly approved raise is retroactive to his anniversary date of March 27th. The 2% increase raises his yearly pay from $158,741 to $161,916. Fourth Ward City Council Member Amy Roth believes Muckler should be paid more based on what other City Administrators are earning.
“I just think it’s a step in the right direction. Personally, I wish it could be a little bit more. I think around the state of Iowa there are many others in the same position that make more. I think that we are lucky to have Mr. Muckler stay with us for a while as we try to work on that.”
Third Ward Newton Council Member Stacy Simbro has also publicly spoken about his appreciation for Muckler’s hard work. All six Newton City Council members supported the 2% pay increase.
