The Norwalk boys tennis team competed at the IHSAA 2A District 3 Singles and Doubles Meet in Marshalltown on Saturday, going 1-4 overall.

Competing against Ames, Dallas Center-Grimes, Iowa City Liberty, Linn-Mar, and Marshalltown, the Warriors were placed in a tough district. They came away with only one win in singles, as #1 Wyatt Coburn defeated Noah Gilbert of Iowa City Liberty. Coburn would then fall to Linn-Mar’s Garrett Bauermeister in two sets. Also in singles, Isaac Lors fell to Linn-Mar’s Abhi Suresh Kannan in two sets. In doubles, Lane Juergens and Eli Mills lost to DCG’s Logan Halverson and Griffin Kleis in two sets, and Ben Swim and Rohan Tiedt lost to Ames’ Grant Phillips and Quin O’Bryan, also in two sets.

Head coach Nicole Berger expressed that the district had plenty of tough competition, and Norwalk hopes for more wins in their upcoming substate matchup on Wednesday. In that contest, 7-3 Norwalk will take on 9-5 Cedar Rapids Kennedy. Wednesday’s first serve is scheduled for 9 a.m. and will be played at Linn-Mar High School in Marion. The winner of that matchup will take on the winner of 11-4 Linn-Mar and 4-11 Waterloo West that same day to qualify for state.
