The Pella Christian boys tennis team competed at the Class 1A District Individual Tournament at Pella’s Caldwell Park Saturday, and won three first round matches.
In the singles bracket, Jayden Lee opened his tournament with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Michael Dang of Des Moines Hoover, before falling 2-6, 5-7 to Ryker Jones of Pella in his quarterfinal match. Owen Verhoef also secured a win in the singles bracket, opening up with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Britton Smith of Albia in the first round, but then dropped his quarterfinal match 4-6, 2-6 against Jonathan Pyatak of Chariton. In the doubles bracket, Blake Gallaher and Liam Zula also won their first round matchup 6-0, 6-1 over Trace Rupprecht and Kyle McHawes of Oskaloosa, before falling 4-6, 0-6 to Cohen Richardson and Drew Fausch of North Polk in the quarterfinal. The Eagles tandem of Luke Schreur and Sam Acquaviva also competed in the doubles bracket, but fell in their first match 0-6, 2-6 to Pella’s Trevin Sutton and Brayden VanHorn.
