
Eagles Boys Soccer Team Uses Dominant Second Half to Mercy Rule Sigourney Keota
Using eight goals in the second half, the Class 1A #8 Pella Christian boys soccer team needed just 64 minutes to pick up a 10-0 road win at Sigourney Keota Thursday night.
The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half, getting goals from Ben Van Wyngarden and Elias Keegan in the first 40 minutes of play. In the second half, Pella Christian’s offense really picked up steam, needing just 24 minutes to net eight goals. The Eagles’ goals in the final 24 minutes of play came from Van Wyngarden and Asher Edel – who each had two goals – Keegan, Ian Vander Molen, Joel Pogany, and Michael Sheredy.
The Eagles improved to 8-4 overall with the victory, and they will return home on Tuesday to host cross-town rival Pella at 5:30 pm.

Pella Christian Boys Tennis Squad Nabs First Victory at Oskaloosa
The Pella Christian boys tennis team picked up their first win of the season Thursday afternoon, knocking off Oskaloosa 7-4 on the road.
The Eagles got off to a strong start, winning three of the five doubles matches, before winning four of the six singles matches to improve to 1-6 overall on the year. In doubles play, Pella Christian’s victories came from Luke Schreur and Sammy Acquaviva at #3 (6-1, 6-7, 10-4), Charlie Braafhart and Leo Blommers at #4 (6-1, 4-6, 10-5), and Alex De Vries and Carter Meinders at #5 (6-1, 6-3). The Eagles singles wins came from Jayden Lee at #1 (6-4, 6-3), Owen Verhoef at #2 (7-5, 13-11), Liam Zula at #4 (6-0, 6-0), and Blake Gallaher at #5 (6-1, 6-4).
The Pella Christian boys tennis team will look to build on the momentum of their first win on Tuesday, hosting Newton at 4:15 pm.

Eagles Track and Field Teams Compete at the Newton Cardinal Co-Ed Meet
The Pella Christian track and field teams competed at the weather-shortened Newton Cardinal Co-Ed Meet Thursday, and the boys took eighth place while the girls finished in 10th.
The Eagle boys posted a team score of 21 on the night, while the girls had 24.5 team points. Pella Christian posted six top-five finishes on the night, led by the girls sprint medley relay team of Lexi Terpstra, Amaia Agre, Rachel Kacmarynski, and Maisy Meinders posting an event winning time of 1:52.10. Will Vanden Bosch added a second place finish in the 3200m run (9:47.04), while Olivia De Haan took third in the long jump (15’ 6”). The boys 4x800m relay team of Griffin Stoltz, Logan Gallaher, Hudson Meixner, and Sawyer Meinders broke a 16 year old school record with a time of 8:09.43 to take third place in the event. Other top five finishes for Pella Christian came from the girls distance medley relay team of Abby De Vries, Ashlyn Ver Meer, Chloe Vos, and Greta Vos in fourth place (4:49.80), and the boys 4x200m relay team of Lucas Dolezal, Elijah Boender, Camden Huyser, and Anton Boender taking fifth (1:39.46).

Pella Christian Boys Golf Finishes in 6th at the Grinnell Invite
The Pella Christian boys golf team competed at the Grinnell Invite Thursday, and turned in a team score of 360 to take 6th place out of the 7 teams playing. The Eagles were led by senior Devan Runner who turned in a season best score of 84 for the day. Sophomores Trevor Vos and Lewis Menninga turned in scores of 90 and 91 respectively to be the Eagles second and third top scorers. Sophomore Levi Fransman rounded out the team scoring with a 95. Kade Geetings and Garrett Wielard rounded out the varsity squad with scores of 97 and 114. The Eagles next varsity action will take place on Monday at the PCM Invite at Gateway Recreation Golf Course.
