
A Des Moines man caught with drugs after leading a Jasper County Deputy on a high-speed chase from northeast of Mingo into Marshall County, has been given a suspended nine-year prison term. Michael Austin Suiter pleaded guilty to a class D felony charge of eluding at speeds more than 25 mph above the speed limit, and two aggravated misdemeanor charges of 2nd offense possession of a controlled substance. District Court Judge David Faith imposed consecutive suspended prison terms of five, two, and two years. He also placed Suiter on probation for six years, and suspended $2,735 in fines.
Court documents state a Jasper County Deputy attempted to stop Suiter for speeding just before 2:30 a.m. on May 8th of last year, on Highway 117 North. But the Des Moines man reportedly increased his speed, and was clocked at 115 mph as he drove through the town of Rhodes in Marshall County. Suiter was taken into custody a short time later after driving over stop sticks. In his vehicle, officers reported finding a loaded 9 mm pistol, marijuana, methamphetamine, and a scale.
